War and the Humanities: A Reading Group In-Person
This group meets twice a month to discuss books about war from humanities sources: fiction, poetry, memoir, and more. For April, we will be reading The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. Written by a veteran of the Vietnam War, this canonical, award-winning work of science fiction serves as a counter narrative to overly patriotic accounts of warfare. Mixing topics like time travel and futuristic technologies with perennial existential themes, Haldeman's novel offers provocative and unsettling reflections on what it means to come home, the nihilism of combat, and on whether you can truly know if someone is an enemy. After registering, stop in at the Edinboro Branch to pick up your copy.
