War and the Humanities: A Reading Group In-Person
This group meets to discuss books about war from humanities sources: fiction, poetry, memoir, and more. For August and September, we will be reading Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. A work of historical fiction set during the Civil War, Cold Mountain is a story about coming home from a war. Like Homer’s Odyssey, Frazier both masterfully explores the journey of homecoming itself, and the ways that the passage of time changes the very home to which one journeys. The historical detail, page-turner effect, and blunt descriptions of fighting during the Civil War all show why this novel won the National Book Award. After registering, stop in at the Edinboro Branch to pick up your copy of the book.
