War and the Humanities: A Reading Group

War and the Humanities: A Reading Group In-Person

This group meets twice a month to discuss books about war from humanities sources: fiction, poetry, memoir, and more. For October, we will be reading J. Glenn Gray's The Warriors: Reflections on Men in Battle. Gray applies rigorous philosophical analysis to his own experiences in WWII, offering an insightful character study of the 'warrior type.' Informed by his own journals from time in the European theater and his career as a philosopher, Gray's book delves into the challenging existential terrain of who it is fighting in modern wars, exploring topics ranging from guilt to the role of love in war, from the attraction of combat to the defining of an enemy. After registering, stop in at the Edinboro Branch to pick up your copy of the book.
