Jefferson Educational Society Presents: Uncovering Fairview: Learning Local History at Fairview High School with Jim Brinling and Susan Nelson.
Title: Erie Experience - Focusing Local in Civics Education
Professor/Instructor/Speaker - Fairview High School Social Studies Department
The social studies department at Fairview High School has a new elective course for students of all grade levels. The purpose of the Erie Experience course is to build knowledgeable citizens through a connection to local geography, history, economics, and culture.
Teachers Susan Nelson, Nicole Nies, Jim Brinling, Hank Barbour, and Jessica Quiggle will present an overview of the course, samples of course content, and a review of student experiences from spring 2023. By conducting bus tours and field trips teachers provide background information to help students see and understand their community. Engaging with local museums, businesses, and cultural sites students are able to be present in, aware of, and connected to their community.
Please visit the Jefferson Edicational Society website at https://www.jeserie.org/satellite-programming to register for this event. Registration is required and space is limited.
