Art 4 Wellness: Beginning a Daily Art Practice Using a Series

Art 4 Wellness: Beginning a Daily Art Practice Using a Series In-Person

If you are looking to weave together your creative passion and mental wellbeing, then try the Art 4 Wellness program!

Have you ever done a daily art-challenge? Have you wanted to increase creative expression but notice it fizzle out after a couple days? Try starting a series. A series is where you prep many of a kind, in order to have a base to work from and make creativity easier to approach. In this program we will begin by exploring fluid media as a way to calm a busy mind. Observing and encouraging patterns and textures to develop, we will watch paint move, mix, and change. We will also work on a small scale, creating backgrounds for later use. We'll discuss making a series in baby-steps, share tips, as well as possible uses such as daily creative practices to nurture mental wellness and creative expression. If the group is inclined, we'll facilitate a swap at the end of the studio. Most materials are provided but you're welcome to bring your favorite watercolors, paper or scissors as well. Registration is required for this free program.

This program is led by Dr. Sheila Lorenzo de la Peña of PennWest University (Se habla español).

If you want to get a better feel for the Art 4 Wellness series, you can see descriptions and images of past sessions here and here. New ways of artistic creation are always available to learn using the library's Maker Kits as well!
