Erie's Living Library - Seeking Community Volunteers! In-Person
The Erie County Public Library is excited to pilot a Living Library event as part of our mission to foster understanding and strengthen connections in the Erie community!
A Living Library is a unique program where community volunteers-our "Living Books"-share their personal experiences through one- on-one or small-group conversations with patrons. These open, respectful dialogues provide a space for curiosity, challenge assumptions, and break down barriers.
We are seeking volunteers with lived experiences to serve as Living Books on topics such as:
- Overcoming adversity (e.g., homelessness, addiction, disability)
- Cultural and religious experiences
- Career journeys, especially in unique professions
- Life as an immigrant or refugee
- Stories of resilience and breaking stereotypes
Program Details:
- Hosted at Iroquois branch library on September 6th, 10 - Noon
- Readers (attendees) will browse a catalog of Living Books and engage in 10 minute conversations
- Volunteers are asked to select in advance a self-chosen "title" and summary to add to the catalog
- Library will provide optional questionnaire to help you prepare for conversations
Why Join?
