Teen Slam Poetry In-Person
Calling all teen writers, poets, and performers: You’re invited to attend and compete in Blasco Libraries Teen Poetry Slam. While there will only be one winner, all contest participants may expect their poetry writing and public performing skills to be honed and exercised. For teens ages 13-18. Registration required.
Want to compete? Here are all the details:
- To perform and compete in the Poetry Slam, you must be between the ages of 13-18 years old.
- Poets will perform their piece on a theater stage in front of a live, supportive audience.
- The top three poets will win gift cards.
- All skill levels and abilities are welcome to perform.
- Slots in the poetry slam are limited; registration is required.
Poetry Slam Competition Rules
- Each poem must be original to the participating poet.
- Each poet has three minutes to read one poem.
- The poet may not use props, costumes, pre-recorded/taped music, or musical instruments while performing. Performers are allowed to sing, beatbox, and make any other sounds with their bodies during the performance.
- In the event of a tie, the top two poets will face off in a final round, so poets should come prepared with at least two original poems they are willing to perform.
