A decorative wooden spoon carved by Ken Bownes

Spoon Carving Course In-Person

From a tree branch to a beautiful, functional spoon, learn the craft of spoon carving from local woodworker Ken Bownes. Each week you will dive deep on part of the spoonmaking process and have time to carve with Ken's help. This class has 5 sessions, all on Monday nights (except session 4, which has been moved to August 8th to avoid Labor Day). Registering for this first class registers you for all 5 sessions. Please only register if you can commit to attending all 5 sessions. This program is for adults only, ages 18+, and all materials and tools will be provided.

This class has a cost of $30 that is required on the first day of the course. This fee helps cover the cost of a carving knife that you get to keep. If interested, you are encouraged to buy your own tools to carve outside of class. You can also visit the Idea Lab during open hours to carve with the tools we have in the space.

You can check out Ken's work on his website or reach out to him and attend a meeting of the Erie Spoon Club by checking events on their Facebook page.

All dates for the August/September spoon carving course are listed below:
