Roller Girl with Derby Girls : TWEEN EVENT* In-Person
Whether you love graphic novels or roller derby (or both!) join us for an interactive book club with real roller girls! In Victoria Jamieson’s Roller Girl, we meet Astrid. Astrid falls in love with roller derby and signs up for derby camp. So begins the most difficult summer of Astrid’s life as she struggles to keep up, hang on to a friend she feels slipping away, and cautiously embarks on a new friendship. As the end of summer nears and her first derby bout draws closer, Astrid realizes she might be strong enough to be a roller girl.
Participants will receive a free copy of Roller Girl to read before the program date, and have a book discussion with members of the Eerie Roller Girls. We will also have a demonstration of derby skills, a fun craft, and snacks.
* Parents please note that this is a tween event, and is directed toward patrons ages 8-12. As per the content of the graphic novel discussed, there will be content from the perspective of a middle school environment. Please understand that ages that are younger should not attend.
Registration is required and space is limited.
