Word Warriors: Children's Book Club Reading of The Wishtree In-Person
Ages 8 to 12. Registration is required. To register, please call the Youth Services Department at (814)451-6936. Participants must be present at both meetings, 9/10 and 9/17 to participate.
We all have wishes, ones we share openly with the world as well as ones we hold near to our hearts. But Red, the neighborhood’s oldest oak tree, knows all of her town’s wishes. While Red may be friendly and welcoming, not everyone in the neighborhood has the nicest things to say to the new neighbors. Whoever said, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,” may have been mistaken.
Welcome to ECPL’s newest book club, an interactive reading experience, exploring Newbery Award winning author Katherine Applegate’s Wishtree. It’s magical realism with an empathy driven plot and remarkable character development.
Participants will receive a free copy of Wishtree to read between meetings. Our meetings will consist of a guided book discussion and fun activities. We’ll cast our wishes upon our very own wishtree, play animal charades, try foods from many cultures, work toward being anti-bullies, and many more awesome activities.
