Spoon River Symposium

Spoon River Symposium In-Person

This event, which is free and open to the public, is the Spoon River Anthology symposium, set to take place Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Hirt Auditorium of Blasco Memorial Library. “Spoon River Anthology and the Poetry of 100 years ago” will feature three presentations by local professors:

  • Greg Brown, PhD, Mercyhurst University, “Spoon River: Text in Context”
  • Steve Sullivan, PhD, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Spoon River Approaches to the Meaning of Life
  • Matthew Darling, PhD, Gannon University, “Longing for the Sea, and Yet Afraid”: The Expression (and Repression) of Desire in Spoon River Anthology

The presentations not only explicate themes and meanings from the many poems of ‘Spoon River Anthology,’ but also place the text in context of the time from which the collection emerged.
