Climate Change and the Great Lakes Online
This talk will help to build climate change knowledge by breaking down the complicated science and terminology surrounding this intricate topic. Expected climate changes to the local Erie area will be used as examples for discussion and furthering understanding with a focus on harmful algal blooms and water quality.
Amber Stilwell will be presenting this talk. She has been the Research Coordinator at the RSC since May 2020, and was formerly the laboratory manager at the RSC since 2016. She received an M.S. degree in Environmental Engineering from Gannon University in 2016, and a B.S. degree in Biology from Mercyhurst University in 2013. Her work at the RSC has focused on Harmful Algal Blooms, E.coli in sand and swimming waters, flow cytometry, climate change, and restoration projects on Presque Isle State Park. Amber has had extensive research experience gained throughout her academic and professional career, and she works closely with the RSC team of professionals and interns to complete several grant funded research projects each year. Additionally, Amber is the secretary of the Community Resilience Action Network of Erie (CRANE) which strives to provide education and resources about climate change locally. Amber is well equipped in public speaking and enjoys providing experiential learning for people of all ages and abilities about science and the environment. In addition to her time with the RSC, Amber also enjoys teaching adjunct at local universities on a variety of topics including introductory biology, climate change response, and research design.
This talk is part of an ALA grant on resilient communities and climate change.
