War and the Humanities: A Reading Group

War and the Humanities: A Reading Group In-Person

This group meets twice a month to discuss books about war from humanities sources: fiction, poetry, memoir, and more. Books are provided as well as refreshments. For July, we will be reading Achilles in Vietnam: Combat Trauma and the Undoing of Character by Jonathan Shay. Looking at the narratives of Vietnam combat veterans through the lens of Homer's Iliad, Shay explores overlooked experiences in war--betrayal, grief, and berserk rage--to argue for the modern relevance and therapeutic value of the famous Greek epic. After registering, stop in at the Edinboro Branch to pick up your copy. Book contains graphic language.
