War and the Humanities: A Reading Group

War and the Humanities: A Reading Group In-Person

This group meets twice a month to discuss books about war from humanities sources: fiction, poetry, memoir, and more. Books are provided as well as refreshments. For October, we will be reading All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque. This enormously impactful novel, nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1931 and banned by the Nazis, fictionalizes Remarque's bleak and terrifying experiences as a German soldier in trench warfare during WWI. Testifying to the timelessness of this story, Germany has submitted a new film version as a 2022 Academy Award contender, so the time is right to read this monumental force of literature. After registering, stop in at the Edinboro Branch to pick up your copy.
